I originally noticed this when trying to track in PT11, that if there were any UA plug in ANYWHERE (say on a Reverb bus), it would create latency for the recording instrument. I hadn't considered that it may be the Multi Out aspect, but, it's obviously a show stopper, as you say. When there is any UA plugin instantiated regardless of what track it's on, there is a ridiculously noticeable latency (that adds up with more plugins) between BFD3 and the other tracks. I noticed the issue in a session where I'm running BFD3 Multi-out, an instrument track with Xpand on it, and a couple audio tracks. Although, the Multi-out aspect is a new angle, that very well may be what's going on. I'm having the same problem and have spent hours trying to fix it. Mac Pro 2008 8core running Mountain Lion.
